Sarnitsa Fortress - walls of a Thracian, late antique and medieval fortress with a signal tower
They are located above the village of Sarnitsa next to the Gidika pass. The fortress wall built of crushed stones without solder in places includes protruding rocks, structurally connected to the wall.
The fenced area is nearly 2 decares. At the lower northern end of the fortress the citadel is separated by an additional transverse wall.
On the surface there are ceramic fragments from the beginning and from the second half of the first millennium BC, as well as from the Roman Age and the Middle Ages. A rare valuable document was found here - a military diploma from Emperor Elagabalus, dated January 7, 221. The diploma is kept in the former court museum in Vienna.
